Scientific Method Lab
- Scientific Method
- Inductive reasoning: use detailed observations to draw general conclusions.
- Deductive hypothesis: flows from the general to the specific: If ... then ... logic - predictions.
- Can make predications.
- Tested by a falsifiable expermient.
- Write a deductive hypothesis for each of these observations:
- Fruit fly development from egg to adult speeds up in warmer temperatures.
- Increasing amounts of pesticide kill beneficial organisms like songbirds.
- Hypothesis can be a null hypothesis:
no difference between experimental and control groups. Example:
There is no difference in the survival rate of birds subjected to 0.1% pesticide and 5% pesticide ingested in their food.
